The BSF, Nagaland and Manipur Sector HQs is going to conduct special recruitment drives in the State for absorbing unemployed youths into the newly planned seven companies within the seven battalions being deployed in the state.
DIG BSF Nagaland and Manipur PK Mishra told The Sangai Express today that around 247 youths from the State were recruited into the force during the current year.
More youths will be absorbed during the special recruitment rallies to be held in the State during the next two months.
He said that the present seven battalions have six companies each.
The recruitment drive is being conducted to increase the number of companies in each battalion to seven.
The Centre has already approved the plan.
Mishra said that BSF troops are being deployed in Bishnupur and Churachandpur district along with some posts at Sajik Tampak in Chandel district.
Stating that the army is responsible for looking after the Indo-Myanmar border, he said BSF should not be blamed for the looting occurring along the Imphal-Moreh route.
Apart from fighting insurgency, the BSF has been engaging in various activities from time to time to help the State Government.
The force is also co-coordinating with army, State police and other paramilitary forces in the State.
He recalled that 13 BSF jawans were killed in encounter with insurgents during the current year.
The biggest casualty on the part of BSF was the UNLF ambush at Kwakta in which three jawans were killed, the DIG said.
Regarding the Indo-Pak tension, he said that the Union home ministry instructed BSF Sector HQs to standby if a war breaks out.
